27 July 2010 James Halliday's 2011 Wine Companion is published tomorrow, and we've just learned that we have achieved the 5 star rating for the first time! James' ratings are based on the track record of a winery, but particularly on the wines tasted in the months prior to publication, so the rating is a guide to current vintages available for sale. We'll update here with ratings for individual wines as they come to hand.
15 July 2010 As always, there is a lot happening here at Mount Majura Vineyard!
The 2008 Merlot has sold out and won't be replaced until the 2009 is bottled late in September. The 2009 Pinot Gris has sold out, and the 2010 was only bottled a fortnight ago, but is already released as it is gorgeous and ready to enjoy.
Our next proper newsletter is with the printer, ready to send out for the Tempranillo release at the end of the month. Don't forget the release event here at the Cellar Door on the 30th of July.
Fergus and Jessica are on their way to Sydney for the Good Food & Wine Show this weekend. Also in Sydney this weekend, Five Way Cellars will have many of our wines on tasting, Saturday 17 July, 12-6pm.
Finally, the wine show season has started again, and we have five medals from six entries from our first outing, the Winewise Small Vigneron Awards. The highlight is a Gold Medal (and top in class) for the 2009 TSG, just as the 2008 (current release) won Gold at the same show last year.
29 June 2010 Have a look at the freshly-updated Events page with details of several great events in July and August, including the Tempranillo release — a highlight of the Mount Majura Vineyard year.
22 June 2010 Our photographer friend Beth Jennings came out and did the Gumboot Tour recently. Have a look at the great series of photos on her blog.
In other news, the 2010 Riesling and Pinot Gris are looking fabulous and going to bottle next Monday. We've skipped the Winter newsletter but will have the next newsletter out late july in time for the Tempranillo release. There will be a Tempranillo release evening here at the winery on Friday 30 July, and some interesing Spanish-themed events during Fireside Festival in August.
9 April 2010 Have a look at some lovely shots taken here last weekd by photographer Beth Jennings. Beth has an exhibition, 'leaving traces' opening on the 15th of April at The Front Gallery and Café in Lyneham and running from the 14th to the 27th. See Beth's website for details.
8 April 2010 Introducing: TempraNeo. We're excited about this new venture we're part of. Along with five other leading makers of Tempranillo, we're coming to Melbourne and Sydney in August to show off our best wines of the variety and explain why it inspires us.
