12 February 2009 Vintage started today, our earliest ever. We're picking chardonnay for sparkling base. Read more about vintages getting earlier and how we decide when to pick in the Autumn Newsletter, just out. Have a look at the newly released 2009 Riesling too.
11 November 2009 Frank had a great time attending the exhibitor's tasting at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in Mildura last weekend, plus the associated events such as the Stefano De Pieri-prepared Long Lunch. It was exciting to win a Gold Medal and trophy (the inaugural 'Stewards Choice' award) for the 2008 Tempranillo. It was one of five gold medal winners in the class (2009/2009 Tempranillo), showing how well the variety is coming on in Australia.
The Summer newsletter is out, including the long-awaited 2008 Shiraz release. The 2008 Graciano is released also.
20 July 2009 The wine show season is underway, and we've done rather well in our first outing, with two Gold and one Silver medal at the Winewise Small Vigneron's Awards. The Golds were for 2008 Chardonnay and 2008 TSG (not yet released), while the Silver was for 2008 Merlot (due for release in a couple of months).
24 April 2009 We finished vintage today by picking Graciano and (for the first time), a tiny quantity of Touriga. Some lucky cellar door visitors got to foot-tread the Touriga in a barrel. Meanwhile the weather this weekend is forecast to be a little less warm and dry than hoped, so unfortunately the music and pizza planned for cellar door on Sunday have been cancelled. The cellar door will be open 12-5 pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm Sunday and Monday.
