Tempranillo 2010

The 2010 Tempranillo has a dense core of dry savoury tannin, interwoven with fleshy cherry and blueberry fruit, and embroidered with a host of aromas, from sweet spices and pomegranate, to malt and leather.

Within days of our first harvest of Tempranillo (in 2003) we knew we were onto something. The ferment smelled so intoxicating, and so different from the other varieties we make. That is precisely how the wine turned out, and while we only make small quantities, it sells very quickly.

Tempranillo has become our flagship variety. It is clearly very well suited to the site.

A great example of the right terroir matched to the right grape variety. Majura's 2010 tempranillo shows the same meaty thread that was seen in the 2009; baking spices and gently toasty oak sit across the ripe red- and purple-cherry fruits - a little spice lift here too. The palate's bright, even and balanced, crafted along fine, elegant tannins; there's plenty of ripe-cherry and red-plum flavour, toasty oak chimes in, and there's a fresh, crunchy acid kick to close. 94 points and awarded Best Emerging Red (Nick Stock, The Age/Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide 2012)

It has deceptively soft, plush fruit tannins and is grainy on the finish. An utterly appealing wine. Decant and enjoy with spicy pork spare ribs. Or cellar it for up to 10 years."
