05 Jun Frank is a finalist in the 2018 Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine
Our winemaker, Frank van de Loo has been nominated as a 2018 finalist in the Winemaker of the Year awards conducted by Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine.
Van de Loo started working here in the vineyard at Mount Majura in 1998, quickly expanding it to the current size, and taking over the winemaking role in 2001. The expansion of the vineyard included planting of several alternative varieties, and it has been the continuing exploration of new varieties and styles that has seen us at Mount Majura Vineyard gain prominence locally and nationally.
Under van de Loo’s guidance, the Mount Majura Vineyard Tempranillo has become a national benchmark for the variety as well as our winery’s flagship wine.
According to Toni Patterson MW “Frank van de Loo is an innovative producer who makes a sweep of stylish wines from estate-grown fruit. All his wines are authentic and expressive with superb varietal clarity and purity.”
Frank says the nomination was an unexpected honour “I was floored when they rang, but I’m really proud of the work we’ve done with the team here at Mount Majura Vineyard. It’s another great recognition of the Canberra District too, with Bryan Martin, Alex Mackay, Nick Spencer and Tim Kirk all having been finalists previously (Kirk going on to win the award in 2013).”
