Lime Kiln Red is a new medium-bodied wine that’s all about deliciousness and drinkability. A blend of shiraz (spice, red fruits and blueberry) and touriga (darker fruits and velvety tannins), its a great introduction to the Mount Majura Vineyard style.
LIME KILN RED
Lime Kiln Red is a new medium-bodied blend that’s all about deliciousness and drinkability. With such a collection of interesting varieties in the vineyard and winery, new blending trials are irresistible fun. The 2019 Lime Kiln Red is 52% shiraz and 48% touriga. And the name? A 1912 map of the district showed a ‘Lime Kiln Block’ near the current vineyard site, presumably burning limestone similar to that in the vineyard to make builder’s lime
This year we celebrate our 30th vintage. Just like last year, the 2018-2019 was the second-warmest season on record behind 2016, this time with some very hot summer weather. A very dry winter saw us applying irrigation prior to budburst for the first time. January was particularly hot, and irrigation was used to prevent heat damage. Subsequent weather during ripening and vintage was good. Yields were down in most varieties, but quality was good, and once again, the later ripening varieties benefitted from the milder conditions, showing great colour and flavour definition.
