A gloriously fragrant and elegant Shiraz, offering complex violet and savoury characters on the nose and a fine, silky palate. A very pretty wine for the table and the cellar.
Clearly the leading variety of the Canberra District, Shiraz performs very well in our climate and soil. This is the 14th vintage of Mount Majura Vineyard Shiraz and the product of three different Shiraz clones.
This is an aristocratic shiraz that could stand shoulder to shoulder with cabernet sauvignon (although never confused with it). The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with blackberry and plum fruit swathed in fine, but persistent, tannins, oak merely an observer. The wine has flawless balance and length, its end point shrouded in the mists of the far future. Rating: 96 Drink By: 2045 (James Halliday)
Sweeter, fresh boysenberry fruitiness, sniff of floral character, pepper and sweet spice with a whiff of green herbs. Just so pretty to hang over. Wonderful bouquet. Medium weight, slinky and slippery, herb ‘n’ spice, crisp red fruits, dusting of pepper, fine web of tannins. Pitch perfect cool climate shiraz (syrah!) feel here. Lovely stuff. The very attractive red fruits and spice nose is enhanced by some forest floor whole-bunch character. Intense varietal flavour takes centre stage on a long, savoury palate. (Winewise Magazine)
